MY HOUSE ONCE SAT ON THE BOWERY, IN NEW YORK CITY. IN 1854, AN OYSTERMAN FROM LOCUST, NJ, SAILED HIS BOAT TO THE BOWERY TO SELL HIS LOCAL CATCH OF OYSTERS WHEN HE CAME ACROSS OUR HOUSE THERE AND FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. HE PURCHASED THE HOUSE, MOVED IT CAREFULLY TO HIS BOAT, AND SAILED IT DOWN THE HUDSON RIVER TO CLAY PIT CREEK, WHERE IT SITS ATOP A HILL TODAY.
